About this site
Hello and Jai Swaminarayan. My name is Mohan Iyer and I live in a suburb of Chicago, U.S.A.
This site was started as a small token of my respect and prayers for Parampujya Pramukh Swami. I am not a Gujarati but I lived long enough in Baroda to learn and appreciate first hand the utmost devotion and loyalty of His followers. I visited the Swaminarayan Mandir at Atladara many times and every time I was there, I had found complete relaxation and inner peace.
I must also thank my good friend Nayan Mehta without whose initial guidance I would never have come in touch with the Sanstha.
Ever since I received Pramukh Swami's blessings, I have been able to face any adversity with courage and spiritual strength and my life has taken a turn for the better.
When I came to Dallas, United States of America in 1996, one of the first things I did was to visit the Swaminarayan Temple. It is truly amazing that despite time constraints and a generally permissive atmosphere, so many well-educated and highly-placed professionals find time every Sunday to assemble for two hours for "Ravi Sabha" (Prayer session).
To a first-timer, some of the philosophies may seem backward and anti-feminine but considering the intention and the period of history when these were enunciated, these are morally healthy principles. Irrespective of caste or creed, most of these tenets are very valid and ethically sound.
While I can understand, speak and read Gujarati, I cannot write. Therefore, I have posted the English language versions of the three important scriptures of Swaminarayan Sanstha.
I have made use of the publications from Swaminarayan Aksharpith, Ahmedabad, India for materials pertaining to these three scriptures - Shikshapatri, Upasana, and Vachanamritam.
